Top Holidays for Car Theft

The National Insurance Crime Bureau ranked U.S holidays based on number of vehicles stolen.  The holiday with the highest incidence of stolen vehicles

is New Year’s Day.  The second was Halloween followedby Independance Day.  Christmas Day had the lowest number of reported thefts and Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve ranked second lowest.  Therefore, one could say if you made it through New Year’s without having your car stolen, you could consider that a good sign as a start of the New Year!

On another note, there is always a perception that Christmas is statistically a time of violence and family-altercations.  However, the NSW Bureau of Criminal Statistics and Research analysed the crime stats for 2005-06 and 2009-10 and found Christmas Day is about average for property crimes and crimes of violence.  It also showed that the property crime rate was lower for the adjacent days which left the assumption that crooks enjoy being at home for Christmaas just like the rest of us.
